Gertie Mae Spivey: Longs
1933 – 2025
Gertie Mae Spivey of Longs died Tuesday, Feb. 25, in McLeod Seacoast hospital. She was 91.
Born March 12, 1933 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Vance Lee Hilburn and Nellie Rebecca Fowler Hilburn. She was the widow of Donnie Houston Spivey.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Lee Hilburn; and two sisters, Luette Penny and Eva Cox.
She is survived by five children, Ronnie Spivey, Danny Spivey, Ricky Spivey, Sr. (Gale) of Tabor City, Kathy Spivey Kerr (Michael) of Longs, and Elson Spivey (Mary Ann) of Tabor City; four brothers, Vance Leon Hilburn of Loris, Dale Hilburn of Tabor City, Henry Lee Hilburn of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Brice Lee Hilburn of Thomasville; two sisters, Vera Piver of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Pearl Matthews of Hartford; fourteen grandchildren, Jamie Spivey (Adriane), Dawn Spivey, Ricky Spivey, Jr., Jennifer Spivey, Wendy Pettry (Jerry), Carrie Feldbusch, Sherrie Rippa, Kathleen Spivey, Dustin Enzor, Brandon Enzor, Danielle Megonigal, Melissa Hill, Jessica Decarlo (AJ), Thomas Ranalli; eighteen great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel, burial following in the Fowler Hilburn Cemetery.
Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services in the chapel.
