Rev. Edward E. Spivey: Loris

1934 – 2025

     Rev. Edward E. Spivey of Loris passed away on Wednesday, March 12, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 91.

     Born March 9, 1934, in Tabor City, he was the son of the late Daniel Leamon Spivey and the late Ruth Jane Cox. Rev. Spivey accepted his call to ministry and served for 60 years beginning at Christ of Calvary Church and ending at First General Baptist Church.

     Survivors include his loving daughter, Glenda Spivey Giroux (Clint); two grandchildren, Garry Phillips (Mary), and Matthew Phillips; four great-grandchildren, Brittney Curry, Allie Williams, Kaleb Curry (Emma), and Colby Curry; great-great-grandchild Ty Austin Curry; brother and sisters Laverne Graham, Willa Dean Williams, Christine Saylor (Bill), and Sylvia Ferguson.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Spivey was predeceased by his wife, Hester Maxine Davis Spivey; two brothers, Donnie Spivey and Dale Spivey; a sister, Lorine Jordan; and sister-in-law Gertie Spivey.

     Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at Emerson Original Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Heath Conner and Rev. Jerry Stepp officiating. Committal services followed at Oak Dale Cemetery with Rev. Mike Gerald officiating.
