John Thomas Goff: Loris

1934 – 2025

John Thomas “Tom” Goff of Loris passed away peacefully on Nov. 13 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 91.

Born Sept. 14, 1934, in Horry County, Tom was the son of the late Azzie Goff and Sadie L. Goff. He was preceded in death by his sisters Llethea Causey, Bernice Mitchem, Sara Causey, and Nancy Carter, as well as his brothers Marshall, Robert, and William Goff.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Anna Pearl Sarvis Goff; his two children, Kim Goff and his wife La Cha of Loris and Tonyua Herring and her husband Ron of Tabor City. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Luke Herring and his wife Meagan of Shallotte. Tom also shared a special bond with his great-grand-dog, Scoter, who brought him great joy and companionship. He is also survived by his beloved sisters Sadie Lee Stewart and her husband Dallas of Darlington, Peggy Waltz of Goose Creek, and Speedy Causey of Florence; along with his dear cousin Frances Johnson of Conway; and cherished friends Benny and BJ Edge of Cerro Gordo.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, love, and quiet strength. Together with his wife Anna Pearl Goff, he built a home filled with laughter, devotion, and strong family values.

He dedicated much of his life to service and craftsmanship, working for the South Carolina Department of Transportation for 31 years. Known for his skill, reliability, and integrity, Tom earned the respect of all who worked alongside him.

After retiring early, he continued his lifelong passion for mechanics through the family business, Goff’s Garage, a trusted fixture in the community specializing in his favorite make—Ford cars and trucks. His legacy of honest, quality work proudly continues through his son.

A lifelong NASCAR fan, Tom found joy in traveling with his family to races and sharing in the excitement of the sport he loved.

Tom will be remembered for his steady presence, his sense of humor, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved. His hands built more than engines—they built a life and a family that will honor his memory for generations to come.

A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Twin City Memorial Gardens in Loris.
