Jimmy S. Tyler: Loris
1942 – 2026
Jimmy S. Tyler of Loris went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday Jan. 7. He was 83.
Born Jan. 22, 1942, he was the son of late Samuel Junior “June” Tyler and Bertha Stevens Tyler.
Jimmy was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and served through the years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was passionately committed to the Men’s Prayer Breakfast every Sunday morning.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Edwards Tyler.
Once Jimmy gave his heart to Christ, he and Carolyn (and other family members) traveled with a Christian Drama Ministry “I Dreamed I Searched Heaven for You”. A few years later he and his family served in a ministry the Lord led him to start “The Crossroads” where the Gospel message was shared in Word, song, and dramatic representation in multiple states along the coast. In the last few years, God had been giving him a vision for a new drama ministry that he was working on.
Jimmy was a homebuilder professionally for most of his life. He grew up working hard from his youth on the farm. He loved to fish, garden, and to do anything where he could be outside. He grew roses because he loved the beauty he saw in them. He raised various livestock over the years, but his real love was for his chickens.
In later years, he would just sit and watch them. He loved simple things watching rabbits playing in his yard, kittens tumbling over each other, birds feeding from the bird feeders. He loved life and was always making plans for what he was going to do next. He never gave up and always pushed forward and trusted God to get him where he needed to be.
His passion for the Lord was followed by his love and passion for family and friends. Get togethers with his family were most often in numbers over 45. He was a father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Sheri (Michael) Bevins, Angela (Dan) Moore, and Jamie Marohl; two granddaughters, Jennifer Weihert, and Alex (Jordan Harrelson); nine grandsons, Daniel (Christina) Weihert, Andrew Weihert, Tyler Moore, Sam (Faith) Moore, Ben (Savannah) Moore, Morgan (Brooke) Marohl, Mack (Kallie) Marohl, Mason Marohl, and Micah Marohl; nine great-grandsons; nine great-granddaughters; a sister Doris (Martin) Sohn; and multiple loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents Jimmy was predeceased by his sons-in-law, Ronald Weihert and James Marohl.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Mack Hutson and Rev. Darren Hardwick officiating. Committal services followed at Stevens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy’s grandsons Daniel Weihert, Andrew Weihert, Tyler Moore, Sam Moore, Ben Moore, Morgan Marohl, Mack Marohl, Mason Marohl, Micah Marohl, and grandson-in-law, Jordan Harrelson.
Family requests that memorials be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 3907 Hwy 905, Conway, SC 29526.
