Herman Paul James: Loris
1936 – 2023
Herman Paul James of Loris passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023 at his home following an illness. He was 87.
Born March 21, 1936 in Loris, he was the son of the late Leamon Dewey James, Sr., and the late Ina Meice Harris James.
Mr. James served his country with courage and honor in the United States Air Force. After his military service, Mr. James worked with Sup Ship Six, as a Ship Surveyor, until his retirement, and he was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Shelba Jean Long James; a son, Randall James; two daughters, Sandra Ballou (Thomas Ray), and Gay Barwick (Lester); four grandchildren, Lyndsey Follis (Brad), Justin Ballou (Victoria), Talley Hanson (Aaron), and Harris Barwick (Rachael); seven great-grandchildren, Reese Follis, Parker Follis, Bennett Barwick, MacLynn Barwick, Hayes Barwick, Juniper Hanson, and Flora Hanson; two brothers, Leamon Dewey James, Jr. (Barbara) and Bobby Reynolds James (Judy); and sisters-in-law Hester Faulk James and Linda James.
In addition to his parents, Mr. James was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Edward James, Lloyd Collins James, and Robert Wayne James; and a sister-in-law, Carol Dutton James.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Hord officiating, committal services with military honors following at Hardee Cemetery.
Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding services in the church.
