Martha Nobles Spivey: Whiteville

1945 – 2024

     Martha Nobles Spivey of Whiteville died Thursday, Jan. 25, in her home. She was 78.

     Born April 23, 1945 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. James Nobles and Josephine Nealy Nobles.

     She was a faithful member of Emerson Original Free Will Baptist Church.

     She is survived by her husband, Jackie Preston Spivey of the home; two sons, Randy Spivey (Lisa) of Chadbourn and Greg Spivey (Kristie) of Cerro Gordo; three sisters, Beth Ann Buffkin, Linda Faye Perritte, and Mary Lou Godwin (Dennie), all of Tabor City; five grandchildren, Kandace Locklear (John), Ashley Sellers (Allen), Derek Spivey (April), Dylan Spivey (Taylor), and Megan Spivey; and four great grandchildren, Merissa Spivey, Kenzi Spivey, Peyton Sellers, and Preston Spivey.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Eugene Spivey; two brothers, Joseph Nobles, and James Howard “Buddy” Nobles; and a sister, Joyce Tyler.

     Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, in Inman Ward Funeral Home.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in Emerson Original Free Will Baptist Church, burial following in Myrtle Green Cemetery.
