Wee Rene’ Stevens Turner died on Jan. 28 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center of complications of Lewy Body Dementia. She was 80.

She was born July 29, 1943, in Tabor City, the youngest daughter of the late Davis A. Stevens and Hattie Cox Stevens.

Rene’ was the survivor of a premature birth that earned her the name ‘Wee Rene.’ She graduated from Tabor City High School, Class of 1961. Her marriage to Capt. Marcus S. Turner ended far too soon with his death in Vietnam in 1967.

Starting a new life in Atlanta, she received a degree from Georgia Perimeter College. Rene’ enjoyed a career in selling Real Estate in Atlanta. Later she transitioned to residential Real Estate Development in North Carolina and Virginia.

After retirement to the farming community of Leicester, North Carolina, Rene enjoyed many years with her rescued barn cats and her hand raised Charolais bulls, giant puppies who would follow her from field to field.

Her final days in Wilmington were spent with family simply enjoying the ocean views.

Rene’s is survived by her son and his wife Marcus and Melissa Turner of Charlotte,; various nieces and nephews of the Stevens and Turner families; and Suzanne and Bill Harper of Wilmington, who have become family in these past years.
