Martha Prince Hardee: Loris
1932 – 2024
Martha Prince Hardee of Loris passed away on Monday, April 22, at Grand Strand Medical Center. She was 92.
Mrs. Hardee was born March 8, 1932 in Loris to the late Irby Ervin Prince and the late Florence Benton Prince. For many years, Mrs. Hardee was an active member of the Loris First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hardee had many hobbies: cooking, gardening, and quilting. She also spent many years traveling with her loving husband, Hoyt. She was known for her delicious cakes, casseroles, banana pudding, fig jam, and her Thanksgiving dressing. She also enjoyed freezing and canning fresh vegetables. She had a passion for gardening. She was known for her manicured yard and beautiful flower beds. She loved to make unique quilts. In fact, each family member has a quilt that she made. Most of all, she valued spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include her two daughters, Janice Medlin and husband David and Edwina Prevatte and husband Earle all of Murrells Inlet; her grandchildren Jennifer Lyerly Iverson, Sarah Lyerly Chamberlain, Evan Prevatte, Elaina Prevatte and her fiancé, Austin McMahan; great grandchildren Noah Iverson, Leah Iverson, Jake Chamberlain, and Luke Chamberlain; a sister, Betty Tyler of Lake Waccamaw; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardee was reunited with her husband of 65 years, Hoyt J. Hardee; her grandson, Frank Ervin Lyerly; her three brothers, Ernest Prince, Claude Edward Prince, Sr., and Jack W. Prince, Sr.; and her four sisters, Marie Powers, Juanita Floyd, Florene Stevens, and Nell Lupo.
Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Hardee’s caregivers, – Tammy, Shirley, and Lorie – for their dedication and compassion during this difficult time. Their efforts allowed Mrs. Hardee to stay at home much longer. Family would also like to extend a thank you to the caring staff at Reflections Assisted Living.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, in Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dan Vincent officiating, Ronald Fowler providing the eulogy. Committal services followed at Carter Cemetery in Loris.
