Janette Paul Hughes: Loris
1940 – 2024
Hazel Janette Paul Hughes of Loris passed away on Saturday, June 15, , at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 83.
Born Sept. 21, 1940, in Loris, she was the daughter of the late Alice Durant Paul and the late Curtis Nathan Paul.
Mrs. Hughes began her career at Hardee Manufacturing with her husband, and went on to work, and retire from the Horry County Auditor’s Office after many years of faithful service. She was a longtime active member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, worked with V.B.S., and was a Bible drill instructor.
Mrs. Hughes’ was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother that will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Survivors include her daughter, Rita Hughes Boyd (Johnny); her son, Rev. Mark Hughes (Janice); one brother, Michael Dale Paul (Jen); a sister, Flaudie Mae Romero (Ceaser); five grandchildren, Bradley Suggs (Kari), Edward Suggs (Courtney), Colby Suggs (Courtney), Chad Hughes (Tennie), and Aaron Hughes; ten great-grandchildren, Ansleigh Suggs, Haven Suggs, Brooks Suggs, Kennedy Suggs, Kinleigh Suggs, Easton Suggs, Kaydin Hughes, Miriah Hughes, Chayton Hughes, and Norah Hughes.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was predeceased by her husband, Windell Edward Hughes; two brothers, Nathan “Buddy” Paul, and infant Nathan Curtis Paul Jr.
Family planned to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Hardwick Funeral Home.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Hutson officiating, committal services following at Carter Cemetery.
Family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, 4301 Red Bluff Road, Loris, SC 29569.
