Fred D. Strickland, Jr.: Clarendon

Fred D. Strickland, Jr. of Clarendon died Monday, June 24,in his home. He was 85.
Born Dec. 17, 1938, in New Hanover County, he was the son of the late Fred Doris Strickland, Sr., and Grace Gladys Hardie Strickland. He was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Survivors include son, Jon Strickland (Kendra) of Clarendon; three daughters, Rhonda Edwards (Ricky) of Cottageville, Wendy Tyree (Robin) of Whiteville, and Julie Walker (Reggie) of Clarendon; five grandchildren, Kenley Strickland, Cruz Strickland, Trevor Tyree, Heather Godwin, and Ricky Edwards; four great-grandchildren, Landry Godwin, Grayanna Godwin, Blake Nobles, and Bayleigh Edwards; and a sister, Doris Gore of Tabor City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Grainger Strickland; a brother, Henry Strickland; two sisters, Margaret Strickland and Katherine Deloch.
Memorial services were planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, in Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church.
Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding services in the church.
