John Monroe McDowell: Clarendon
1929 – 2024
John Monroe McDowell of Clarendon died Saturday, Nov. 23, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was 95.
Born Oct. 8, 1929 in Dillon County, he was the son of the late Monroe McDowell and Ella Belle Alford McDowell.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald McDowell of Clarendon and Danny McDowell of Nakina; three daughters, Bonnie Nealey of Clarendon, Linda Clark of Clarkton, and Paula Pease of Shallotte; a sister, Elsie McAuley of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanchie Mae Fowler McDowell; three brothers, Marshall McDowell, James McDowell, and Joseph McDowell; seven sisters, Ada Barnhill, Letha Saber, Bernice Hall, Maggie Ammons, Eudell McDowell, Francis Guagliardo, and Earline Scott; and other extended family.
A graveside service was planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, in Stanley Cemetery, Mollie Road, Clarendon.
Family planned to receive friends following the service in the cemetery.
