William Rey Worley: Loris
1948 – 2024
William Rey Worley of Loris, to family and friends known as “Billy,” passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at his home.
Billy was born Aug. 13, 1948, in Horry County and was loved and adored by his parents, the late Rey L. Worley and the late Sarah Phillips Worley.
Billy graduated from Floyds High School and briefly attended Spartanburg Methodist College but left to pursue his interest in the U.S. Air Force. After serving his country, he returned to the Pleasant View family farm where he dedicated his life to his family while developing, cultivating, and harvesting the crops on his land.
As a farmer, Billy worked hard long hours in the tobacco, soybean and corn fields, but found time to enjoy his favorite activities such as: fishing, hunting, and watching college football. Alabama was his favorite college team and Bear Bryant his favorite coach.
Billy was a longtime member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
His appreciation for nature was a passion derived from his mother. From mules to goats, squirrels to deer, his compassion ran deep for these furry creatures. If a neighbor came upon a motherless baby deer, Billy would provide care and rehabilitation. Strays and orphaned animals always found refuge on his farm.
Billy was predeceased by his devoted wife, Celsa A. Worley; and son-in-law Tim Housand.
Survivors include his son, William Rey Worley, Jr. and wife Karen of Nichols; daughters Susie Worley Housand of Nichols and Maria Worley of Loris; three grandchildren, William R. Worley, III, Chasity Hight and husband Tucker, Ashley Strickland and, husband Kayson; two great-grandchildren, Ansley and Kemper Strickland; and his faithful Dachshund, Doofy.
A memorial was planned from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Hardwick Funeral Home.
