Marietta McNeal Pierce: Hallsboro

1942 – 2025

     Marietta McNeal Pierce of Hallsboro died Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville. She was 82.

     A native of Savannah, Georgia, Pierce moved to New York City as a teen, and lived in Maryland for a time before she moved with her husband to his home town, Hallsboro, in 1983.

     She retired in 2008 after nearly 25 years as a switchboard operator for Atlantic Corp. in Tabor City, parent company of this newspaper.

     She was pre-deceased by her husband, Johnnie W. Pierce; and survived by a brother, James McNeal of Augusta, Georgia.

     Her funeral was planned for noon Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Peoples Funeral Chapel in Whiteville, with cremation to follow. Viewing was planned for the hour preceding the service at the funeral home.
