Coy Lee Norris Sr.: Loris

1949 – 2025

Coy Lee Norris Sr. of Loris passed away peacefully at Grand Strand Medical Center on March 3, surrounded by his loving family. He was 76.

Born March 2, 1949, in Loris, he was the son of the late JD Norris and Greeba Tyler Norris.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Coy lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to his family.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Coy served his country with honor in the U.S. Army before spending his years farming—a career that reflected his deep connection to the land and appreciation for hard work. Though his hands were always busy, he found his greatest joy outdoors, especially when fishing. He cherished the peaceful moments on the water, particularly when shared with his grandson, Zander.

Coy was a man of unwavering faith, finding strength and purpose in his church community. His heart was always with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon for many years. In later years, he also found great joy and fellowship at Macedonia Baptist Church, forming deep bonds and continuing his devotion to God alongside a loving congregation. His church families at both Pleasant Grove and Macedonia were a source of comfort and belonging, reflecting the steadfast faith that guided his life. Coy’s kind spirit and enduring presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Coy is survived by his loving wife, Deletha Norris; his daughter, Sandy Carland (Jeff); his son, Coy Lee Norris Jr. (Samantha); and his beloved grandson and fishing companion, Zander Carland. He is also survived by his sisters, Bonnie Long (Buck) and Cindy Young (Mike), as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Additionally, he is remembered by his step-grandchildren, Shannon Todd (Anson) and Zack Strickland (Hailey), along with their children, who are deeply cherished by his son, Coy Jr. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte Milligan.

Coy’s legacy is one of love, faith, and hard work. While he has cast his last line on earth, we find comfort in knowing he now rests in peaceful waters.

Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate PCU staff, for their exceptional care and kindness during his time with you. Your support and dedication brought comfort to him and to all of us in his final days.

A service to honor his life was planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Graham and Rev. Pete Johnson officiating, committal services with military honors following at Twin City Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made in his memory to Veterans Memorial Park of America, Inc., P.O. Box 2046, Whiteville, NC 28472.
