Roland H Johnson, III: Loris
1951 – 2025
Roland H Johnson, III was born in Galveston, Texas on Nov. 18, 1951, and entered into his eternal rest at his home in Loris on June 28.
Roland was a man full of life, full of energy, full of faith, full of passion, and full of words. Roland was a true Texan by every definition of the word. He loved campfires, storytelling, family, and brisket. Nothing about Roland was small, from his smile to his laugh. He loved deeply all those who entered through his door and loved Jesus more.
Family was the most important to him; family was not just those born in his house, but any student that desired to understand life. He was an educator, mentor, biker, guide, advisor, counselor, and Jesus freak. All walks of life were welcome to sit around the campfire to discuss belief. He desired so much to help people that he started a Chaplaincy Program for the Galveston Texas Police Department that reached out and helped so many officers and first responders. His passion for people and faith is something that all who knew him will carry on in his memory. His legacy is one of belief, love, passion, and an understanding of God that goes beyond the four walls of a church. It reached the masses whether they were from the streets or from the synagogue. He reached people of all cultures, faiths, and beliefs; no one was a stranger to Roland.
Roland was predeceased by his parents, Roland H Johnson, Jr. and Elizabeth Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of almost 44 years, Becky Johnson; his children, Nevin Alonso (Marcos) of Heiskell, Tennessee, Roland “Hunter” Johnson IV (Sarah) of Loris, Theodore “Patrick” Johnson (Tracy) of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren Savannah Barth (Chris), Sadie Alonso, Quinn Johnson, Isaac Johnson, Malachi Johnson, Gia Johnson, Zoey Johnson; great-grandson Teodoro Barth; brothers and sisters Laura Guerrero (Jodie) of Cedar Park, Texas, Ray Johnson (Susan) of Burnet, Texas, Ann Hurt (Billy) of Pearland, Texas, and Randy Johnson (Cathy) of San Antonio, Texas; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Roland’s memorial service will be held at a later date that is still to be determined by the family.
Family requests that memorials be made to the Chaplaincy Program at the Galveston Police Department, Attn: Sgt. Harris, 601 54th St., Galveston, TX 77551.
