Laphena Housand Hardee: Loris

1936 – 2025

     Laphena “Lou” Housand Hardee passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at her home in Loris. She was 89.

     Born Feb. 17, 1936 in Loris, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Cleveland Housand and the late Amanda Ruth Cox Housand.

     Survivors include her loving sons, Danny J. Hardee and C. Gene Hardee; a daughter, Kathy McDonald; one brother, Elwood Housand; a sister, Ruthann Cook; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

     In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardee was predeceased by her husband, John Jefferson Hardee, Sr; a son, John Jefferson Hardee, Jr; and five siblings..

     Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Hord and Rev. Mack Hutson officiating. Committal services followed at Hardee cemetery.
