Judy Lynn Johnson: Loris

1953 – 2025

     Judy Lynn Johnson of Loris died peacefully at home on Monday, Oct. 13. She was 72.

     She was born in Mullins on March 6, 1953 to Doris Clemons Johnson and the late Maryland Johnson.

     Judy grew up in the Hulls Island area working on her parents’ tobacco farm. She attended Sweet Home Elementary School and graduated from Loris High School in 1971, later pursuing her education at the University of South Carolina graduating from Coastal Carolina University.

     For the first half of her adult life Judy traveled the country living in Alabama, Arizona, and then Houston. In 1991 she moved back to Hulls Island to raise her daughter, Caroline.

     Judy worked for Long Bay Golf Course for more than 20 years and then at Beachwood Golf Course for 15 years. She was a hard-working woman all her life.

     In 2021 one of her greatest joys in life was born, her grandson, Waylon Vann, giving Judy the opportunity to spend her last years watching him grow.

     She was preceded in death by her father, Maryland Johnson; a brother, Jan A. Johnson; nephew Matthew Johnson; and granddaughter Violet Vann.

     She is survived by her mother, Doris C. Johnson, daughter Caroline Johnson (Matt Vann); grandson Waylon Vann; a brother, John Johnson (Freda Johnson); sister-in-law Gayle Johnson; nieces and nephews Dan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Austin Johnson (Lori Johnson), Lindsey Johnson, and Andy Johnson.

     Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Hardwick Funeral Home, 4831 Main Street in Loris.

     Committal will be private and held at a later date.
