Virginia Prince Clemons: Green Sea

1928 – 2024

     Virginia Prince Clemons of Green Sea passed away in her home in Myrtle Beach on Monday, July 15. She was 95.

     Mrs. Virginia was a faithful, lifelong member of Green Sea Baptist Church for 74 years, and attended Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach.

     Mrs. Virginia Prince Clemons was born in the village of Gurley on Sept. 9, 1928, and baptized in Bug Swamp while a member of Gurley Baptist Church at the age of 16. Mrs. Virginia was the baby daughter of the late Edward Walter Prince Sr. and the late Reba Floyd Prince both of Gurley.

     Mrs. Virginia was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Edgar Milton Clemons of Green Sea; her brother, E.W. Prince Jr.; sister-in-law Margaret Suggs Prince; sisters Mildred P. Brown (Russell), Ernestine P. Bailey (Ernest), Elizabeth P. Moody (Dick), Edna Earle Wood (George); father-in-law Edgar “Ed” Clemons (Blanche); sister-in-law Bonnie Clemons Donlan (Marty); brother-in-law Vernon K. Clemons (Peggy); an aunt, Beatrice Strickland; and nephews Tommy Bailey and Robert Brown.

     Survivors include her four children, Milton Edward “Mickey” Clemons (Sandra), Susan Wilson (Mitchell), Jenny Ruth Clemons (Gregory), and Joseph Walter “Joe” Clemons (Charla); her beloved grandchildren Walter “Walt” Kane Wilson (Tabitha), Colby Clemons, Kayla Brook Clemons (Fiancé, Hunter); great-grandchildren Nataley Wilson, and McKenzie Wilson; nephews Rodney Donlan (Stephanie), John Donlan (Lori), Robert Naugher (Steve Andrews), Ed Prince, III (Joanna), Richard Moody, Russell Brown, Jr. (Darine), Jimmy Wood; nieces Cindy Wood, JoAnne Donlan Gordan and late husband, Jeff, Patricia “Trish” Donlan Griffin (Steve), Peggy Lynn Clemons, and Beth Prince Gann (Steve).

     Mrs. Virginia Prince Clemons graduated from Loris High School in 1945. She attended Columbia College in Columbia in 1946 and 1947, and graduated from Winthrop College in 1949 with a BA degree in Home Economics with a minor in science. She began her teaching career at Brookland Cayce High School in Columbia in 1949.

     In June of 1950 she married her sweetheart Edgar Milton Clemons at the First Baptist Church in Columbia. They lived in Columbia at the start of their marriage and then moved back to Green Sea in 1951.

     Mrs. Clemons enjoyed a 34 year career in the Horry County School system teaching both home economics and science at Green Sea High School. Mrs. Clemons taught home arts at Green Sea Floyds Middle School. While teaching she was an active sponsor of the Future Homemakers of America chapters at the local and state levels.

     Mrs. Clemons owned and operated the Regatta Motel in Myrtle Beach beginning in 1977 and working until 2001, then the Towers Motel in Myrtle Beach, until her retirement.

     Mrs. Virginia was a devout Christian who loved her Lord and Savior, as well as her church life. She was a loving wife, mother, excellent homemaker. She had a deep passion for friends, community, her family and students throughout her 95 years. Sewing, cooking, and gardening were always a part of her life that she cherished. She was a woman of faith and high family values. Her family meant everything to her. She always taught a “family living unit” each year over her entire teaching career.

     Funeral services were planned for 5 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Green Sea Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Brust and Phyllis Elvington officiating, committal services following at Green Sea Cemetery.

     Family planned to receive friends from 3 to 4:45 p.m., preceding services, in the Green Sea Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
