Ronald Stephen Sykes: Loris

1946 – 2024

     Ronald Stephen Sykes of Loris passed away on Dec. 8 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was 78.

     Born Nov. 22, 1946, in Southport, he was the son of the late Elbert Chalmas Sykes and the late Geneva Walton Sykes.

     Mr. Ronald Sykes served his country with courage, honor, and distinction in the United States Army. During his time of service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle), and Armed Force Expeditionary Medal.

     After his military career he owned and operated a construction company and worked with the US Postal Service. In his personal life he loved fishing, was blessed to have lived in the lower Key’s for a period of his life, and was of the Baptist Faith.

     Survivors include his son, Kent L. Sykes Anderson of Little River and Kent’s mother, Tonya Faulk of Loris; sister Brenda Sykes Brown of Wilmington, Shirley Sykes Horne of Myrtle Beach, and Tammy Sykes Freeman (Clay) of Lumberton; a niece, Macy Sykes Freeman of Lumberton; and nephews Rusty Horne of Chadbourn, Jeffrey Horne of Boulder, Colorado, and Eric Brown of Wilmington.

     Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Floyd and Rev. Dr. Tim Osment officiating, committal services with military honors following at Twin City Memorial Gardens.

     Family planned to receive friends during the hour preceding services at the chapel.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society, PO Box 3369, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29582.
