Myrtle Alpha McCumbee: Whiteville

1942 – 2025

     Myrtle Alpha McCumbee of Whiteville passed away Monday, June 2. She was 82.

     Born in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Clewis and Clara Suggs Clewis Watts.

     She is survived by one son, Gary McCumbee (Loretta) of Whiteville; a daughter, Angela Chestnutt (Brian) of Tabor City; two sisters, Eunice Ward of Chadbourn and Mildred Hardwick of Whiteville; and two grandchildren, McKenzie and Bailey Chestnutt.

     In addition to her parent’s, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Eugene McCumbee; one brother, WC Clewis; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Brady.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in Macedonia Original Free Will Baptist Church, 48 Crusoe Island Road, Whiteville, burial following in the church cemetery.

     Visitation was planned for the hour preceding services in the church.
