David Lynn “Shorty” Conner: Loris
1956 – 2025
David Lynn “Shorty” Conner of Loris passed away on Monday, June 16, at his home following a sudden illness. He was 69.
Born Jan. 23, 1956, in Loris, he was a son of the late David James Conner and Jasmine Hardee Conner.
Mr. Conner began working at the Loris Lunch and Pool Room where he would bike to work an hour each way. In 1979, he became the owner and operator of the establishment, later renaming it Shorty’s Grill, where he faithfully served the community alongside his wife and son.
He was known not only for his tireless dedication to his business, but also for his deep love of people and unwavering commitment to helping others. A pillar of the Loris community, he was always willing to lend a hand, whether by supporting local sports teams, providing meals, or stepping up in times of need.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Betty Mishoe Conner; a son, Nicholaus Conner (Jennifer); one sister, Sonya Conner McClain; special brother-in-law, Ricky Mishoe (Elizabeth); grandchildren Gage Conner (Brenyn) and Landon Conner; great-grandchild, Stormi Conner; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Meagan Elizabeth Conner; mother-in-law Peggy “Mema” Mishoe; seven brothers, Dale James Conner, Derryl Conner, Devon Conner, Loye Conner, Kenneth Bob Conner, Jimmy Ray Conner and infant son Conner; and four sisters, Cheryl Denise Conner Wilburn, Patricia Ann Conner, Angie Conner, and Pearl Conner.
Family planned to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Hardwick Funeral Home.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, at Loris First Baptist Church with Pastor Shane Phillips and Rev. Jimmy Floyd officiating, committal services following at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
