Verlyn Ruth Prince Stevens: Tabor City

     Verlyn Ruth Prince Stevens of Tabor City passed away on Tuesday, March 24, at her home. She was 91.

     Born Oct. 28, 1934, in Loris, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Carl Prince and the late Cora Lee Harrelson Prince.

     Mrs. Stevens was a loving homemaker who enjoyed tending to her flowers, watching birds, and she cherished her time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Princeville Missionary Baptist Church and will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

     Survivors include her son, Joseph “Joey” Lester Stevens (Tonya); daughters Judy Stanley (Mike) and Cynthia Nelson; grandchildren, Kristy Weis (Paul), Tina Chestnutt (Jason), Theresa Spivey, Rebekka Powers (Matt), Jessica Davis (Buster), Jason Harper (Heather), Samantha N. Suggs (Justin), Brianna Nelson, Christian Stevens (Deseré), and Devin Stevens (Alyssa); 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Mitchell Prince; sister, Carolyn P. O’Quinn, and special friend, Nancy Strickland.

     In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stevens was predeceased by her husband, Elton Cleo Stevens; a daughter, Patty S. Buffkin; one brother, Carlyle Prince; and a sister, Lynda P. Chipps.

     A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, at Stevens Family Cemetery with Pastor Larry Allen and Pastor Dale Willoughby officiating.
