Charles Perry “CP” Godwin: Clarendon

1946 – 2025

     Charles Perry “CP” Godwin of the Beaverdam Community, Clarendon, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 13, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Lifecare Center, Whiteville. He was 79.

     Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late William Godwin and Idella Hinson Godwin.

     A native of the Beaverdam Community and member of Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, he was well known for his love of gardening and sharing what he grew with his neighbors.

     Affectionately known as “Big John” or “Hoss” to many. He worked at International Paper for more than 35 years retiring in 2000 as operator of the Carolina King. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved all things outdoors in his lifetime which he passed on to his grandson Braden.

     He is survived by one daughter, Hollie Idella Fowler (Brandon) of Clarendon; a son, Charles Alan Godwin (Kristen) of Orrum; one brother, Jerry Godwin (Victoria) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Braden Fowler, Kaycee Godwin and Marlee Godwin.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Sue Graham Godwin; and a brother, Rev. Jackie Godwin.

     Visitation was planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, in Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, entombment following in Hinson Cemetery.
