Lacy L. Hardee, Jr.: Loris

1955 – 2017

 

     Lacy L. Hardee, Jr. of Loris age 61, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 29. He was 61.

     Lacy was born Dec. 14, 1955, son of the late Lacy L. Hardee, Sr., and Eunice Hulon Hardee.

     On May 16, 2010, he married Janice Albert Hardee at the Pelican’s Field with friends and family in front of thousands of onlookers. It was the first ever wedding at the facility. In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Kristy Marie Hardee of Loris and Shamaria (Clint) Milligan of Conway, and one grandchild, Maddie Milligan. He also leaves behind a special child of Christ, Cora Bella Fox of Loris; his brother, Ralph Peagler of Columbia; sisters, Dianne (Michael) Phipps of Georgetown, Phyllis (Lonnie) Rutland of Loris, and Carol Beckham of Conway; and several nephews and nieces.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant twin brother.

     Lacy was a graduate of Loris High School Class of 1974. He was a writer for The Loris Scene since 2009. Lacy loved writing about the community and people of Loris, a town he was rooted in and loved dearly. His favorite piece to write was The Layman’s Lines. Lacy loved to share the Good News. Along with his passion of writing, he had a true love of sports, specifically with baseball.  He was as passionate about baseball growing up as he was until his last day.  While he loved the actual game of baseball, he understood that the life lessons a person could gather from it were immeasurable.  As a way to pass these lessons along, he volunteered for over 30 years at the Loris Recreation Department.  In 1995, he was part of the coaching staff that won the Palmetto Youth Small Fry age 10 and under state championship.  As a coach, he was able to create a bond with his players that have lasted to this day. Every person that played for him has a story of how he positively impacted their lives.  He cared deeply about the community of Loris.  Lacy got more satisfaction from seeing a former player grow up and become a good person than he ever did from the wins on the field.  He would tell you that this was from following the examples set by the coaches who impacted him while growing up and throughout his life.  Lacy was a member of Barefoot Church in North Myrtle Beach and served on its Tech. Team.  He was a member of the Loris Recreation Department.

     A memorial service was planned for 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel with Rev. Darrell Johnson and Rev. Lindsey Inman officiating.

     A reception was planned for immediately following the service at the Woodman of the World Building on Woodrow Lane in Loris.
