Jennie Bell Suggs Harrelson: Loris

1912 – 2017

     Jennie Bell Suggs Harrelson of Loris passed away on Thursday, June 22 at McLeod Loris hospital following an illness. She was 105.

     Born March 7, 1912 in Loris she was the daughter of the late, William Henry Suggs and the late, Annie Eliza “Lizza” Elizabeth Harrelson.

     Mrs. Harrelson accepted the Lord at the age of 22 and was baptized at Dow Suggs millpond near Pleasant Meadow Baptist Church. She was the oldest member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully throughout her life. She taught the adult ladies class for many years, sang in the church choir and served on many church committees. Mrs. Harrelson was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and an inspiration to all who were blessed to have known her.

     Survivors include her son, Bobby Windal Harrelson and wife, Freida of Gastonia; daughter-in-law, Betty Jane Springs Harrelson of Loris; five grandchildren, Hildred Clayton Harrelson and wife, Pamela Workman Harrelson of Loris, Amy Harrelson Edwards and husband, James Hubert Edwards of Loris; Victor Glen Harrelson and wife, Ellie of Fort Mill, and Bobby Dean Harrelson of Fort Mill; five great-grandchildren; Hannah Catherine Edwards, Holly Caroline Edwards, Emily Harrelson, Trevor Harrelson and Austin Harrelson; great-grand-daughter-in-law, Casey Dannielle Harrelson and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

     In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harrelson was predeceased by her husband, Alvia Preston Harrelson, one son, Hildred Clayton Harrelson, Sr.; great-grandson, Henry Clayton Harrelson; granddaughter-in-law, Rhonda Harrelson; four brothers, Thelbert R. Suggs, Erby Suggs, Guthry Hampton Suggs, Sr. and Charlie Suggs, Sr. and her three sisters, Lessie Bell, Delia Suggs Fowler and Bessie S. Anderson.

     Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor David Watts officiating. Committal services were private.
