Margaret Juanita Sharpe Stephens Barnett: Loris

1925 – 2017

     Margaret Juanita Sharpe Stephens Barnett of Loris passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, at her home following an illness. She was 92.

     Mrs. Barnett was born on July 10, 1925 in Burlington, daughter of the late Lewis Henry Sharpe and the late, Jenny Ollie Perkins Sharpe. Mrs. Barnett retired as an administrative assistant with the school district and was a longtime member of Loris First Baptist Church. Throughout her life she was very active in the community having been a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the Loris Garden Club as well as the Loris Music & Literary Club.

     Survivors include her son, Joel Edwin Stephens and wife, Esther of Boca Raton, Florida; three daughters, Jan Stephens Alexander and husband, Alex of Burlington, Nancy Stephens Grainger of North Myrtle Beach, and Carol Stephens of Little River; seven grandchildren, Christina Alexander Kirkpatrick, Heather Alexander Haigler, Stephanie Grainger Ellis, Neal Grainger, Katherine Stephens, Garrett Stephens and Russell “Russ” Ottaway; six great-grandchildren, Alexander Ezrine, Barrett Haigler, Lauren Ellis, Emma Kate Ellis, Zackery Grainger and Logan Grainger and one brother, Max Wayne Sharpe of Greensboro.

     Mrs. Juanita was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Edwin Worth Stephens; her second husband, Dr. Jay Barnett; her brother, Emerson Sharpe and her two sisters, Edith Sharpe McClenny and Mildred Sharpe Embler.

     Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Loris First Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Louis Venable officiating, committal services following at Twin City Memorial Gardens.

     Visitation was planned for the hours preceding the service, beginning at 1 p.m., at Loris First Baptist Church.
