Sallie Lathrop Kapps: Loris
1919 – 2026
Sallie Lathrop Kapps of Loris went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 107 years old.
Born Feb. 19, 1919 in Bennettsville, she was the daughter of the late Carl E.A. Lathrop and Hattie Rowley Lathrop.
Sallie lived a long and faithful life marked by devotion to her family, her church and her community.
Mrs. Kapps worked as a middle school teacher and librarian until her retirement.
She was a longtime active member of Loris Methodist Church, where she faithfully participated in the life of the church and sang in the choir. Her faith in Christ was a steady foundation throughout her life.
In retirement, Sallie continued her life of service by volunteering for 35 years in the Loris Community Hospital Gift Shop. She was also a charter member of the Loris Music and Literary Club and Loris Methodist Women. Sallie enjoyed fellowship with friends and especially treasured the time spent with her Bridge Club.
Sallie was known for her kindness, her quiet strength, and her dedication to those she loved. Her long life was a testimony to faith in God, service and perseverance.
She is survived by her daughter, Sallie K. Dalton (Jerry), along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kapps was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty years, Dr. L.B. Kapps; three sons, Kenny (Debbie), Larry (Beth), and Bobby; and her sister, Fredericka Lathrop Powell.

A Graveside Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Patterson Cemetery in Loris, with Rev. Bruce Adams and Rev. Jerry Dalton officiating.
