Jerry Douglas Sarvis: Loris

     Jerry Douglas Sarvis of Loris passed away on Thursday, April 2, at Angel Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Myrtle Beach. He was 73.

     Born June 11, 1952, in Loris, he was the son of the late Bowden Sarvis and the late Ada Abbott Sarvis.

     Mr. Sarvis served his country with courage, honor, and dignity in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and the Army National Guard.

     Following his military service, he dedicated his career to law enforcement with Horry County Police, retiring as lieutenant in 2007. He later continued his service as Assistant Chief of the Tabor City Police Department. Mr. Sarvis was a Grand Master in Tae Kwon Do and enjoyed mentoring kids and adults through his martial arts.

     Survivors include his loving sons, Douglas Jerry Sarvis (Tammy) and Matthew Bowden Sarvis (Shawna); grandchildren, Haley Brooke Sarvis (Paul Schmidt), Lucas Matthew Sarvis (Danielle), Hannah Sarvis, Ellery Sarvis, and James Bowden Sarvis; great-grandchildren, Mylo, Luca, Riverlyn, and Lucas, II.; and four siblings, Bowden James Sarvis, Jr. (Sue), Larry Sarvis, Theresa Skidmore, and Alonzo Sarvis.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Sarvis was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Pam Sarvis and Susan Sarvis.

     A graveside service with military and martial arts honors was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 6, at Cane Branch Cemetery with Rev. Tyler Caines and Retired Capt. David Smith officiating.
